Maudie’s

Been a few days since I have made an entry.  Haven’t been out much due to the rain and this cold I am nursing.  We were planning to go to Fredericksburg today, but put it off due to the rain this morning and the fact that I just plain didn’t feel like driving out there.  Maybe tomorrow or next weekend.  Really getting a craving for some good German food.

Anyway, we DID follow some advice that was in the Austin Food Forum and took a little trip over to Maudie’s off of 360 just South of the River.  We were pretty excited about it, as our friends and even the Forum gave it good marks.  Well (and I am sure there will be repercussions for saying this), we weren’t impressed.

The chips and salsa were pretty good as was the queso.  Unfortunately, that was about as far as it went.  We ordered a couple of their specials, The Mexican Special and the Fajita Enchiladas, which weren’t bad per se, they just weren’t as good as we were expecting.  The Mexican Special and some kind of cheese in it that became grainy when melted which seemed kind of odd and the guacamole seemed a bit off.  As for the Fajita Enchiladas, they were ‘OK’, but the Fajita meat itself seemed to be very charred, and we couldn’t taste any kind of marinade or seasoning on the meat itself.

Maybe it was just a bad day for them, not really sure.  Or, maybe we should have taken a queue from the other patrons there today who were ordering breakfast foods (although it was lunch time).  Anyway, we are willing to go back, I just hope this was a bad experience.
